Dodge the creeps
My First Steps in Game Development (Updated)
Hello! This project is my very first step into the world of game development. I created this game by following the official Godot Engine tutorial: "Dodge the Creeps". I decided to publish it here on Itch.io to get familiar with the export and publication process and to start a public log of my learning journey.
What I added on my own: While the core logic comes from the tutorial, I challenged myself to implement additional features to improve the user experience:
- Custom Pause Menu: Built a functional pause system with "Continue" and "Exit" options, handling game state and process modes.
- On-Screen Controls: Implemented a custom UI with touch buttons to make the game playable on different devices and improve accessibility.
About the Game:
- Genre: Arcade / Survival.
- Goal: Dodge the enemies as long as possible to get the highest score.
- Engine: Godot 4.
What I learned with this project:
- Handling Signals in Godot for decoupled communication.
- Spawning and instancing scenes randomly.
- Creating and managing a User Interface (UI).
- State management (pausing/resuming) and scene hierarchy.
- Exporting and deploying for the Web (HTML5).
